For reasons I will explain elsewhere, I’m anticipating a serious drop off in my ability to play games with other people around June, so this year I have a dynamic 20x5, for which I will allow myself the use of BGA, and a predefined solo 10x10 using real games on an actual table.
Solo 10x10
- Agropolis
- Akropolis: Athena
- Beacon Patrol
- Calico
- Glass Garden
- Gloomhaven: Buttons and Bugs
- Railroad Ink
- R.O.V.E.
- Strato
- Three Sisters
20x5 (games I've played more than once so far)
- Let’s Go! To Japan 5/5
- Welcome To The Moon 5/5

- Forest Shuffle 3/5
- Compile 2/5

- Wingspan 2/5
My February had plentiful games and it gives me joy to see this image. I’ve kept up my Christmas streak and it means a lot to me because of how work has been that I have managed to keep it up. With the help of A Gentle Rain, Naturopolis and the occasional app play. But digital only days were just one or two this month. (Also my logging of Fertig! consists of logging really high scores. I played the app probably a dozen times or more. There was a total of 106 plays of 31 different games this month! I played with 6 other people. One time even with 5 of them at the same time ![]()
I have continued playing various games in my collection and my boardgame diary for 2026 now has 53 entries on BGG ![]()
Playing Dorfromantik pushed my H-Index Challenge to a new high of 22.
My 10x10 predefined solo sits at 37/100 played:
- Naturopolis
(10/10) - Beacon Patrol 7/10
- Cascadia 6/10
- Sanctuary 4/10
- Hispania 3/10
- Red Rising 2/10
- Spirit Island 2/10 (no change, no bandwidth)
- Let’s Go To Japan 1/10
- Mistborn 1/10
My 10 of 20 x 5 Multiplayer challenge remains at 8/50 played. It’s okay. I have been playing with my partner, just not the games I thought I would play.

A really good month for games from The List… the Battletech Campaign (Scouring Sands, I believe?) is really very good. Alpha Strike (the condensed ruleset) isn’t as good as Classic, but gosh is it faster, and it is surprisingly good with the Aces solo rules. I still hope they make a good, coherent Aces system for Classic, but until then… having a lot of fun with this. The Red Renegades (our merc company) did okay in the first mission, but we did fantastic on our second one (a raid into a supply cache in a mountain).
The Twilight Imperium game was soured somewhat by somebody selectively withholding information (he played a Political Rider on an Agenda. I asked “So that gets you Action Cards if your prediction is correct?” and he responded “Yep.” He failed to mention that it also got him the Speaker token, which is enormously significant… and while he technically answered my question, I think I’m just going to avoid playing with him in the future. I don’t want to have to police every question I ask him for precise information). Regardless of that one hiccup, the game was pretty good even if I did remarkably poorly (my final score was 4, compared to 10-9-7 for the other three players). But, upside, it only took about 4 hours to play.
Space Empires has had 1 in-person game, and 2 online games through BGA. The BGA implementation is okay, functional, but the lack of expansion content is going to be an issue soon. I won only 1 of those 3 games, but I’m currently playing 2 more, and I hope to do better in those, and then with some luck get another in-person game of it in March.
Old King’s Crown is very good, IMO. Clever. The asymmetry isn’t overwhelming. I’m curious if there is really a lot of depth to the play, or if it ends up being basically Rock-Paper-Scissors, but I made one decision early in my game out of ignorance that had long, long lasting ramifications (I didn’t realize you only had 1 assassin card in your deck, and I put him in a court for influence/hammers… a bad choice).
I picked up one game (Toy Battle by Paulo Mori) because the tutorial on BGA was really clean and I found myself lacking in welterweight 2 player games recently. I great heavyweights (Sekigahara, Space Empires 4X, War of 1812, War of the Ring, Claustrophobia, Space Hulk, etc…) and fantastic lightweights (Jaipur, Patchwork, Air Land and Sea, Schotten Totten, etc…), but only 1 mid-weight (Battle for Hoth). I want something with depth and teeth, but not overwhelming strategy… Blitzkrieg was my first thought, but then I realized I could get the newest Mori offering instead! I might also pick up Compile… I have a copy set aside, the price is good… but I’m still on the fence on that one since money is so tight these days. Maybe as a reward for myself when I finish the painting commission I’m working on.
May everyone have a fantastic month of gaming!
Feburary Results
10 X 10 Challenge
| Game | Month | Total | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shred of Redemption | 7 | [7/10] | |
| Tag Team | - | [4/10] | |
| Turing Machine | 1 | [4/10] | |
| Illiterati | 3 | [3/10] | |
| Ark Nova | - | [2/10] | |
| Compile: Main 1 | - | [2/10] | |
| Harmonies | - | [2/10] | |
| Motor City | - | [2/10] | |
| A Nice Cuppa | - | [2/10] | |
| Paranormal | 2 | [2/10] |
Well on track. The non-predefined 10x10 certainly seems much more achievable.
Dragged out Illiterati again, after being very disappointed when it first arrived. We implemented some extreme house rules and suddenly it’s much more popular and likely to get regular play.
Monthly Mini Challenge
February Mini Challenge: Solo Game of the Month
A pass mark, with two of four played:
- Paranormal is taking me at least double the BGA play time, which is a bit excessive for the experience
- I wasn’t sure if Shred of Redemption would be a winner when I backed it, but it’s strangely addictive despite the unusual theme and drab colour scheme
March Mini Challenge: Play my Christmas Games
Christmas was quite the bonanza in terms of gaming gifts. Let’s see how many I can get played this month.
Have a mesmerizing March of gaming everyone!

I think I will try this one.
I seem to have made eight already, which is a good start. (Many of the games I play are semi-abstract. Talon has women in the fiction snippets but it’s basically a game about starships shooting each other.)
I’ve got a few too. I’ll fill it out at home Thursday. I’m some cases I find it difficult to even figure out which games have women on the publisher team unless they are named in the credits which are often not listed in BGG. I have one with women meeples (Obsession) but I was going to use that for the almost modern woman ![]()
I want to get in another game of Deadly Dowagers (Victorian( for that. ![]()
(ETA: Though thinking about it that’s a bit late for “Early Modern” as used by historians.)
Dates and periodization are flexible. I mean, according to some historians, the 18th century goes from 1688 (or as early as 1660) to 1815 (or into the 1830s).
Anyone would think there wasn’t a big banner in the sky saying “you are now in the Modern Period, please change your lives accordingly”. ![]()
I have 18 already filled in on first check and 9 'planned'
Play Wingspan Asia a game made by women only (Elizabeth Hargrave & Ana Maria Martinez Jaramill & Natalia Rojas)
Play a game that has a woman as a designer (reserverd for Arnak)
Play Harmonies a game that has a woman as an artist or graphic designer ( Maëva da Silva )
Play Cascadia a game that has a woman on the publisher team (Molly Johnson is listed under Game Developers on BGG)
Play One Piece Nakama a game that has a woman on the box (Both Nami and Robin are present)
Play Clank! Legacy 2 a game that has a woman as a character (2 of the 4 player characters are women)
Play Revive a game that has a woman illustrated on any component (The Nadair character board shows a female character and quite a few cards look like women. Sure fantasy women but women)
Play a game that has a meeple depicting a woman (reserved for Obsession)
Play Mistborn The Deckbuilding Game a game that has more than one woman with a predominant role (Shan and of course Vin)
Play a game that has only women characters ( Rebel Princess?)
Play a game that reminds you of a woman you know (reserved for Patchwork)

Play a game with a woman (reserved for Firefly hopefully)
Play Flourish a game that has an activity that at least a woman in your family likes (I like gardening)
15. Play a game about a known woman (It has got to be Ada Lovelace or Marie Curie, I cannot think of any others right now but I don’t own those games or Empire Foo there has to ne one female leader im there)
Play Arigato a game that has a woman with a profession (any)
Play Viticulture a game that has a woman with a profession linked to Agriculture/Environment (the Mama and Papa cards that lead the wineries)
Play Flatiron a game that has a woman with a profession linked to Construction (you are playing as architects and one of the two player meeples is definitely a woman)
Play a game that has a woman with a profession linked to Engineering (reserved for Skyteam)

Play Hot Streak a game that has a woman with a profession linked to Sports (sport mascots do count, yes?)
30. Play a game that has a happy woman
31. Play a game that has a worried/sad woman (maybe High Society, the woman on the Faux Pas card definitely looks worried)
32. Play a game that has a confident woman
33. Play a game that has a girl
Play Nusfjord a game that has a older woman (They are called “The Elders”)
35. Play a game while listening to music played/composed/sang by one or more women
Play Caverna Cave vs Cave a game that has a Prehistoric woman
Play a game that has a Classical woman (probably Concordia)
Play a game that has a Middle Ages woman (maybe Architects of the West Kingdom)
39. Play a game that has a Early Modern woman (maybe Ticket to Ride Legacy if we ever continue that)
Play Let’s Go To Japan a game that has a Modern woman
(BONUS I!) If you are a woman, play Trailblazers solo (First game I played this year and definitely not qualified for any other category I think)
(BONUS II!) Play a game that was gifted to you by a woman <3 (Reserved for Shackleton Base which was bought with last year’s birthday present credits at FLGS that my friends gave me. This is the only game I have that would qualify in the slightest)
I’m claiming Flash Point for Public Service - the Paramedic and Rescue Specialist have female-coded art.
Flash Point is a good one. Don’t own that anymore. I am still collecting games that fit from my collection. I need to actually go look at some artwork maybe next week-end to check for happy, sad and concerned women…
This year’s challenge is still on track three months in; a different board game played every weekend so far.
