18XX - where to start?

Re 1860 game - @pillbox looks like I manage to do a breakthrough in OR6, but seem to have equalised for now in OR7.1. I’m wondering if delaying the rust of the 3+2’s will benefit me. I think it will as you own 7 shares on BHI&R with a 3+2 even if that rust 2 of mine.

Yeah, I feel like I did well considering I got elbowed out of the middle of the map. I thought I could go it alone with IOW and BHI&R and sneak into the south along the coastline.

Game is not over yet, but I’ve definitely been out-mapped.

Yeah. We still have 2 more rustings. So you can definitely crawl back depending on choices.

sorry, @pillbox . I spoke too soon about OR7. That was significant! Good game. I thought your 2nd game was pretty good

Yeah. I think I did much better in game 2 than game 1. I mistimed Yarmouth Harbor and that hurt me a bit.

But my biggest mistake was that of not forcing VYSC to bankruptcy and gaining tempo in the stock round

Glad we get to see company bankruptcy in this game. That trick was so disgusting when they pulled that on me.

You can only buy one

  • 18Ches with Off the Rails/Tokaido
  • 18Mex

Keeping a lid on what I own, got 1848:Aus, 1876:Trinidad (more for the curio) and 18Svea on the way.

Is this a question?

If so, 18Mex easily

I haven’t played Off the Rails yet, but I don’t see any reason to buy 18Ches. I didn’t buy Tokaido for roughly the same reason.

I do own 18Mex but haven’t played it yet… it looks fantastic.

Yes, it read better in my head

18Mex!!! Title I’ve played most and consequently my most satisfying to play. It does the 1830 family thing with a good map and some interesting enough twists. Really great title.

Off the Rails feel like an 1830-style game but as a light and kinda silly game.

You get more returns with 18Mex. But if light almost-party-ish 18xx, then the former

MEX it is then.
